Russell worked for Airtex Products in Fairfield, and later as a technician for Trunkline Gas Company until retirement. After retirement he drove a school bus for Flora School District #35. He also farmed on the side and raised cattle. Russell looked forward to family farm day each year and enjoyed taking the grandkids on side-by-side rides through the pastures and woods. He is survived by his wife: Mickie Cook of Rinard; a son: Steve (Mary) Cook of Carmi; grandchildren: Kristen (Jeremy) Smiddie of Carmi, Kendra (Andy) Knott of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Karie (Danny) Farris of Newton; great-grandchildren: Jaxson and Madison Smiddie, Hattie, Sydnie, Ellie, and Josie Knott, and Adelyn, Landen, and Brady Farris. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Janice Cook; and a brother: Bobby Cook. A graveside ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Bunker Cemetery. Those attending are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery.
